Telluride Workshop on

The Complexity of Dynamics and Kinetics from Single Molecules to Cells in June 14-18, 2015

Let the system speak for itself

PAST WORKSHOPS

The workshops in the past:
2013
2011
2009

2007

In 2007's workshop we focused more on bridging chemical reactions and dynamical systems theory that enables us to formulate the exact reaction coordinate, collective cordinate in phase space, in isolated Hamiltonian systems (which was recently generalized in dissipative Langevin systems). This subject is now continued in another Telluride workshop entitled "Geometry of Chemical Reaction Dynamics in Gas and Condensed Phases" in 2013 and 2015. Since 2009 we have focused more on complex biological systems and on developing new interactions between theory and experiments especially single molecule experiments, and on exploring new molecular theories for systems that are too complex to postulate the equation of motion in advance and developing data mining in molecular science under the spirit of "let the system speak for itself" (by James Crutchfield in complex systems theory).

More importantly, this Telluride workshop is different from a traditional conference. This workshop is aimed at exploring the new, exciting, open questions, by stirring different disciplines working on different subjects and fields rather than solely to learn about all the wonderful things the participants have already done. Some of the most interesting Telluride workshops in the pioneering early periods of TSRC have used a format in which the first day or the half of the first day is devoted to setting an agenda of the open topics to be discussed, choosing who should be the formal presenter of each of those topics, and setting the day for each presentation. The material that would, in a traditional conference be presented in a talk, would have been contained in the pre-circulated papers. Then everyone will know the substance of where each subject stands and the focus can be on what needs to be investigated next, and how those things could be approached.

Nowadays, some organizations/institutes request the program in which people's name in their institutes are assigned in the specific date in advance, and also scientific approaches become diversified. Accordingly we plan to make the program in advance but we want to keep the original atomsphere and spirits of the traditional Telluride workshop.
