Research Interests

Thanks to the development of the recent experimental technologies, we are becoming able to control the quantum states of molecules such as rotational states and vibrational states and to excite a single vibrational state of these molecules selectively [Brian et. al. Science 296, 2369(2002) ]. One ultimate goal of this experimental technology is to control molecular structural transitional reaction or dissociative reaction which we aim at by exciting some vibrational mode of the molecule. But as the structure of the molecule is getting more and more complicated, it is becoming very difficult to find out which vibrational mode of the molecule we should excite to promote its structural transition reaction which we aim at. Our objective is to overcome the difficulty from the view point of dynamical system. To do so, it is vital to developing a theoretical framework to extract the correlation between structural transitional motions of the molecule and its vibrational motion around equilibrium structures. We presented a theoretical framework to extract the correlation in [H. Teramoto et. al. Journal of Chemical Physics 126, 124110(2007) ] and applied it to Lennard-Jones 6 atomic cluster system. Now, we are developing this theoretical framework further so that we can apply it to systems like proteins which have more degrees of freedom and more complicated potential energy landscape.
